What are the rules on this on this forum? Some forums consider it spam while others say it's ok. There is always a grey area around this so it would be good to know the rules.

Good question I can see it being abused by some. But its a tough call as most of us are on many forums and know each other and our friends to begin with.

Well let's say if we don't know the person and just send them a friend invite to be nice. Anything wrong with that??? No soliciting for a trade or anything like that....just sending a friend invite.

Personally I see problems with that . Thats what the introduction thread is for. But where it gets picky is who says you know them or not. Its a tough one

I hear ya. My point being is you don't have to know em at all and posting to an introduction thread is fine as you can actually say something productive to them.

When you use the friend request your not saying anything at all so in my view it's no harm no foul. Just being friendly. They can always not accept the request. Just my two cents.

I see what you are saying Sal and most would use this properly. As we know there are some that would totally abuse this.
