Default Upgrade Negatives and Positives for FS.

Well as I posted before we have finally brought the forum to the newest version of vBulletin.

We could not upgrade it for the longest time. This was due to a database error that we had. So i contacted vBulletin and they told me my best option was create a new database and forum and import all of the users, forums, threads, and posts. This was our only option in order to be able to upgrade the forum. And upgrading the forum was a must. We were stuck on a version of vBulletin that was 4 years old. It had not been upgraded in that long. Because it was so old many things that we need here on the forum could not be done because they were not compatible with that version. These things include many new mods to come, the Trade Manager, basic functions, and much much more. Not to mention the security risks of running a version that old.

So now we are upgraded but there are a few negatives. First off ITrader was also wiped out. So I am in the process of reinstalling it right now. Does this mean all of you lost your TR? Yes, it does. And I am very sorry for that. If you guys would like me to personally leave you the amount of TR you had before this happened please let me know. It's the only way possible to get it back. I still have the old forum up. Remember, I had to create a new one and import everything to this new one. So I will be able to check your TR and confirm how much you had. So please PM me with the amount of TR you had, and I will confirm it and manually give you TR to that amount.

Also, for some reason some posts or threads you made might show up as if some one else had posted it. This is another draw back of the upgrade. So if this has happened to your trade thread, then please feel free to create a new one.

I know these seem like things that are HUGE. And yes they are. But in the long run its going to be much better for the forum. I will now be able to install our Trade Manager, plus many other great feature that I think every Freebie Forum should have. These things could not have even been dreamed of before the upgrade. But now we can. Which means I can now also start to promote and bring traffic to the site.

The next 2 weeks we will be having some pretty big changes so please stay tuned. You guys are truly going to love the all new FreebieSociety. Hang in there guys, we are only a week or two away from being set back on track to be able to compete with the other forums. Thanks for reading this very long post! :]

If you have any questions please let me know.

Congrats. I just sent you a pm regarding my TR and trade thread. I have another question tho, I purchased my Certified membership last year. Shouldn't traders who've done this be entitled to more pm space than the 50 messages total that the free members get??

Certified Traders we did away with a while back. As soon as I took over the site I threw that out the window. So everyone "right now" are all regular members, and everyone has a PM space of 50. 50 is the default PM space when you install vBulletin. These are some of the many options and settings that I still need to go through and decide on what people are going to get. Eventually, there will be an upgraded membership. As of right now though I am just trying to get FS back off the ground and truly talked about as a referral trading forum as it once was. PM space will be increased here in the few days though. I am just not sure what regular members are going to have yet, so I dont want to change it right now, just to have to rechange it again later on.

If you have any more questions go ahead and shoot away.

Hey Oside,

People are lookin' for a place to set up trade agreements. Is it possible to set up a trade manager? maybe sometime soon. i know that I would feel a little more secure knowing that my part in the trade doesn't go with out a benefit. Do you have plans for something like that?

Yes, we do. If you read the post above, that is why we had to upgrade the forum. Because we couldnt install the Trade Manager on the old version. Now that we are upgraded we have a few small things that have to be taken care of first. Once that is done the Trade Manager will be installed next. Please do not quote me but I would say eta for it will probably be about 2 weeks or so.

I will keep everyone posted. Just make sure you keep coming back to check in with this news forum!

Yes, the PM's are going to be like that until I decided how much to give everyone. Right now everyone is set at 50 TOTAL. That is Inbox and Outbox. Thats what vBulletin sets it at, at default. As soon as I am done with some of these other things that need done I will get to that next.

Conniev - can you please PM about the TR? I know its repetitive, but that is my reminded to do it here in a little bit. Thanks!
